The Problem

The existing 85kw split ducted system had been running for 24 years and had reached the end of its functional life. Due to the age of the unit, it relied on R22 refrigerant, which is now defunct and environmentally harmful.
System Age: The unit had been in operation for 24 years, original to the building.
Mechanical Failures: Identified a failed compressor and failed contactors.
Refrigeration Leaks: Detected an evaporator coil leak and cracked pipework.
Obsolete Refrigerant: The system operated on R22, making repairs unsustainable.
Logistical Challenges: The indoor unit was located on a mezzanine floor above a small dressing room, making standard removal impossible.

The Solution

Complete Air & Refrigeration designed a replacement strategy that addressed the logistical constraints of the site while upgrading the school to modern, efficient technology.
Custom On-site Assembly: Dismantled the new indoor unit and rebuilt it in situ to overcome the mezzanine access restrictions.
Full Hardware Replacement: Installed new indoor and outdoor units.
Advanced Controls: Implemented a new, user-friendly control system.
Environmental Upgrade: Transitioned the site to a low GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerant with zero ozone-depleting properties.

The Outcome

The project was a great success, resulting in a significantly more energy-efficient system for the school. Most importantly, the installation was managed seamlessly by our technicians, ensuring the works were completed without interrupting the school’s day-to-day functions.
